“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” — John 1:5

A Shaken Nation
Just days ago, tragedy struck when Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. A life was lost, a community shaken, and once again our nation’s deep divisions were laid bare.
This isn’t just politics. It’s proof that anger, fear, and hatred have taken root in places where compassion and truth should reign.
And to add to this the ongoing conflicts abroad, the rise of violence in our cities, families divided over politics, churches struggling to hold on to truth, and a generation searching for meaning in all the wrong places—and it’s no wonder so many feel hopeless. The darkness seems louder than the light.
But this is where the Gospel breaks through. When the world feels unsteady, Christ remains the anchor. When division shouts, His Word whispers still: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” (John 14:27)
Introducing The Turn Around
My book, The Turn Around, was written for moments just like this. It’s about broken paths, lost hope, and the radical grace of God that turns despair into new beginnings.
When the world feels impossible to heal, Christ remains. He is the pivot point—the turn around we so desperately need.
“Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:21
This is more than a verse—it’s a command and a lifeline. Every day we are given a choice: to let the weight of evil press us down, or to rise with the goodness only Christ can place in us. The Turn Around shows what it looks like to step out of shame, anger, or despair and move toward redemption.
It’s not about pretending the pain isn’t real. It’s about declaring that pain will not have the final word. Christ does.
And in a moment where violence, hatred, and division feel louder than love, this message matters more than ever. The cross reminds us that even in the darkest hour, hope is alive.
What This Moment Teaches Us
Charlie Kirk’s death highlights three painful truths:
- Division is deadly. Words can ignite violence when fueled by hatred.
- The culture is fractured. We’ve lost the art of listening with compassion.
- The Church must rise. This is the moment for Christians to be a light—not a louder voice of anger, but a living example of Christ’s love.
Our mission is not to win debates, but to show the world a different way—a way marked by forgiveness, courage, and truth spoken with love.
What Charlie Kirk himself stood for, whether you agreed with him or not, he was a man unafraid to speak boldly about his convictions. He used his platform to challenge, to push back against what he believed was harmful to our nation, and to call people to action. That kind of courage—standing for what you believe in the face of opposition—is something the Church desperately needs to recover.
We cannot be silent while the world shouts. We cannot hide while culture unravels. As Christians, our voice must not echo anger or hate, but it must echo truth. We need to speak life where others speak death. We need to declare Christ in a world that has forgotten Him.
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” — 2 Timothy 1:7
Now is the time for the Church to find her voice again—not for political gain, but for eternal purpose. To speak with clarity. To live with conviction. To shine with compassion. That is how we honor lives lost. That is how we carry the cross forward.
Putting Christ Back at the Center
Now more than ever, we must:
- Teach the Word—with conviction, with compassion, with urgency.
- Live the Word—our actions are the clearest sermon we’ll ever preach.
- Shine the Light—not by hiding from the darkness, but by carrying Christ into it.
And this is why I created The Turn Around 12-Week Bible Study and 84-Day Devotional. They’re not just a companion piece to my novel—they’re tools designed to help us do the hard work of taking spiritual inventory, starting within our own homes.
Revival begins in the living room before it ever reaches the nation. It begins around the dinner table before it ever echoes in the church pew. It begins when families open the Word together, when parents teach their children what faith looks like lived out loud, and when individuals pause long enough to let the Spirit convict and correct.
This is the challenge I lay before us as a nation: take the turn.
- Take the step to self-examine.
- Take the step to repent where needed.
- Take the step to forgive and release.
- Take the step to anchor your heart back to Christ.
The world is unraveling quickly, and there is no time to waste. The urgency is real. Every headline screams division, every tragedy reveals how fragile life is, and every day without Christ at the center is a day we risk losing ground to darkness.
But the good news is this: one step can change everything. One decision can turn despair into hope. One family choosing Christ can ignite a ripple that spreads farther than we imagine.
The time is now. Not next month, not next year. Now is the moment to turn around.
A Call to Action: The Turn Starts Here
It’s not enough to shake our heads at the news. It’s not enough to sit in church pews and whisper about how bad things have gotten. We must act.
That action begins with us—not Washington, not the media, not “someone else.” It begins in our homes, in our families, in our own hearts.
That’s why I created The Turn Around Bible Study (12 weeks) and 84-Day Devotional. They are not just pages to read, but steps to live:
The Turn Challenge
- Take Self-Inventory
Look in the mirror. Where have we let the world drown out the Word? Where do bitterness, pride, or fear still take root? - Turn Your Home First
Pray with your family. Teach Scripture at the table. Live forgiveness and grace in front of your children. - Shine Outward
Carry the light into your workplace, your school, your community. Let the love of Christ speak louder than the division of the culture.
⚠️ The Urgency is Real
We don’t have the luxury of waiting until “things calm down.” Every day we delay is another day the enemy gains ground. Every day without Christ at the center is a day we risk losing another generation to confusion and despair.
Now is the time to take the turn—to be people who don’t just talk about change, but live it.
The Writer’s Lantern Podcast
That’s why I’m lighting a lantern of my own. On September 27, The Writer’s Lantern Podcast officially launches.
It will be a space for:
- Conversations about faith and storytelling.
- Honest reflections on how real life shapes fiction.
- Encouragement for those who feel the weight of today’s broken world.
Because stories—whether in books, blogs, or podcasts—can spark faith in ways sermons alone sometimes can’t.
The Writer’s Lantern podcast will feature not only my own journey as a writer and believer, but also voices from people who carry scars, testimonies, and hard-won wisdom. We’ll talk about how true crime headlines stir fiction, how faith threads through fantasy worlds, and how even children’s stories can whisper eternal truths.
Each episode will feel like sitting by a lantern with a friend—unhurried, real, and honest. You’ll hear about the struggles behind the pages, the prayers that shaped each story, and the hope that keeps the pen moving when the world feels heavy.
Most of all, this podcast is about community. It’s an invitation for you to pull up a chair, bring your own story, and join in. Because when we share stories in the light, no one has to walk in the dark alone.
Closing Call
If you’re weary of the noise, if the headlines make you ache, if you long for hope:
- Pray for peace in our nation.
- Speak life instead of anger.
- Share Christ boldly and gently.
The world is divided, yes. But the cross still stands. And in its shadow, we find our way back to Him.
Pull up a chair. The lantern’s lit.

A Prayer for Our Nation and Our Children
Heavenly Father,
We lift up our nation to You in this time of division and grief. Where anger has taken root, plant Your peace. Where fear has grown loud, let Your love be louder still. Guide our leaders with wisdom, soften hearts that have turned to stone, and remind us that no kingdom on earth can stand apart from You.
We pray for our children—their eyes, ears, and hearts so vulnerable to the noise of the world. Protect them from violence, lies, and despair. Surround them with voices that speak truth and kindness. Raise up a generation that seeks Your face above all else and shines light into the darkest places.
Lord, begin the healing in our homes. Let revival spark in families, then spread to churches, communities, and every corner of this land. Help us to take the turn back toward You, for You alone are our hope, our healer, and our King.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
